Premera Data Breach - Notice to Impacted Members
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) learned on March 17, 2015 that unauthorized users gained access to Premera Blue Cross's (Premera) systems. Premera is a member of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, which operates in Washington state and Alaska.
Premera reported that on January 29, 2015 they learned that some data, including personal data, may have been accessed by unauthorized users. Premera reported the data that may have been accessed affected approximately 11 million people and may have included name, date of birth, email address, telephone number, Social Security number, member ID number, bank account information, and claims information, including clinical information and provider information in other Plan service areas.
Premera indicates that there is no evidence information was removed from its systems or that any such information has been used inappropriately.
At this time, we believe some of our BCBSMT members' data could have been accessed by unauthorized users. We are working closely with Premera to determine the extent to which any of our members' personal data may have been impacted.
Members will be notified by mail if their data was impacted.
Premera announced all individuals who think they may have been affected by this incident may enroll immediately for 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through their website , or by calling 800-768-5817, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. CT (6 a.m. and 9 p.m. MT), closed on U.S. observed holidays.
BCBSMT regrets any inconvenience this may cause our members. BCBSMT has a robust information security program and continually enhances its programs. The privacy of our members is a top priority.
