BCBSMT Announces New Grant Cycle

Mar. 11, 2015

Healthy Kids, Healthy Families application process begins April 1

Helena, MT — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) has announced a substantial new grant opportunity for nonprofit organizations across the Treasure State.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Families is a new BCBSMT initiative designed to improve the health and wellness of Montanans with a specific focus on children and families. It is part of BCBSMT's longstanding commitment to invest in and partner with nonprofit organizations that offer sustainable, measurable programs to reach children and their families.

BCBSMT will award four $50,000 grants — one in each of the following Montana regions: western, north central, south central, and eastern. Nonprofit organizations can apply for Healthy Kids, Healthy Families grants during a two-month window from April 1 through May 31, 2015. Winning recipients will be announced in June.

"Nothing is more important to the future of our state than our children," said John Doran, director of public relations at BCBSMT. "Together with partners from across Montana, we can make a real difference in the health and wellbeing of children here."

The Healthy Kids, Healthy Families initiative emphasizes the following areas:

  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Disease prevention and management
  • Supporting safe environments
  • Suicide prevention

In addition to aligning with one or more of these areas of focus, the following criteria are required for all grant proposals:

  • The organization must hold a 501(c)(3) tax status
  • The grant must primarily target individuals in Montana
  • The program must be measurable and demonstrate how the goals will be met as defined in the grant proposal
