2018 Medicare Advantage Change

Oct. 04, 2017

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) has a proud history of expanding access to high-quality, cost-effective health care for Montanans. In our 75-plus year history, we have a track record of stable membership growth across all lines of business.

BCBSMT recently made a strong push to re-enter the Medicare Advantage market. Each year, we take a close look at our products and services to make sure we have the right products in the right markets. BCBSMT is stepping back to re-examine how we can make our Medicare Advantage products and services better and more affordable. In order to continue offering sustainable Medicare Advantage products in Montana's most populated areas, it is essential to narrow our footprint for 2018.

We will no longer offer Medicare Advantage plans in the following counties: Beaverhead, Big Horn, Blaine, Broadwater, Carbon, Chouteau, Deer Lodge, Fergus, Glacier, Golden Valley, Granite, Hill, Jefferson, Judith Basin, Liberty, Madison, Meagher, Mineral, Musselshell, Park, Pondera, Powell, Sanders, Silver Bow, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Teton, Toole, Treasure, and Wheatland.

We will continue offering redesigned Medicare Advantage plans in: Cascade, Flathead, Gallatin, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, Missoula, Ravalli, and Yellowstone counties.

It is important to emphasize that we will still offer Medicare Supplement plan options throughout Montana.

We know our Medicare Advantage members may have concerns about changes to their health care coverage and we're taking the necessary steps to inform members and help make the transition to a new Medicare option as seamless as possible. We have a dedicated customer service line with representatives available to answer questions and offer any additional support needed. We are also working closely with our providers and our agents to make sure they fully understand the changes.

The change does not impact our employer group offerings, individual or small group members.

Please be aware that in order to conduct the annual CMS required HEDIS review and Risk Adjustment initiatives we will need to maintain access to medical records for BCBSMT members for dates of service prior to January 1, 2018. We will seek your cooperation to carry out this process in the same manner as previous years.

We appreciate your continued support and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have additional questions, please reach out to your Provider Network Representative.
