Beautiful Skies Greet Governor’s Cup Runners

Sunny skies and pristine running conditions provided the perfect backdrop for the 51st annual Governor’s Cup held June 13-14 in Helena and presented annually by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana.

The Governor’s Cup, the primary fundraiser for The Caring Foundation of Montana®, raised more than $105,000 through race registration fees and sponsorships this year. The funds help ensure Montanans have preventive health care service access, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. During the awards ceremony, The Caring Foundation of Montana presented a $10,000 grant to Shodair Children’s Hospital from a portion of the proceeds raised during this year’s Governor’s Cup.

“It was a beautiful weekend for running, jogging, and walking, and it was inspiring seeing so many smiling faces cross the finish line,” said BCBSMT President Lisa Kelley. “Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana proudly presents the Governor’s Cup each year, an event that celebrates physical and mental health, along with the community spirit. It is also special to be able to support Shodair Children’s Hospital and the impactful work they do.” The school at Shodair offers year-round schooling for elementary, middle, and high schoolers benefitting from Shodair’s specialized residential psychiatric care.

Results from the Governor’s Cup have been posted.

Weekend highlights include:

  • More than 1,900 registered runners and more than 4,200 people participated in events, including a 5K, 10K, and half marathon, as well as the Kids Marathon program.
  • More than 2,300 students from 16 area elementary schools participated in this year’s training program, culminating with a 1-mile run.
  • People from 31 states, 35 Montana counties, Canada, and Australia participated in race events. Nearly 300 volunteers donated time, including 60 BCBSMT employees.
  • Pat Judge, son of former Montana Gov. Thomas Judge, completed his 45th consecutive Governor’s Cup.

Next year’s Governor’s Cup is June 12-13 in Helena. Registration opens this fall, and information is available at www.govcupmt.com.
