FEMA COVID-19 Funeral Assistance for Beneficiaries

Nov. 17, 2021

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is providing financial assistance for funeral expenses related to COVID-19.

Why it matters: As a courtesy to our members, we will notify their beneficiaries about this program based on information provided regarding life benefits claims.

The details: We will review the cause of death listed on death certificates received as part of the life insurance claims process. If the cause of death is identified as COVID-19, we will send a letter, along with FEMA’s flier, to the beneficiary(ies) informing them about the assistance program.

One more thing: Since we do not provide or administer this federal benefit, we are unable to offer any guidance or assistance with processing the claim to FEMA. We are simply sharing the program information with our members’ beneficiaries in case they are eligible and want to apply.

Learn more: Visit FEMA’s website or read FEMA’s COVID-19 Funeral Assistance program flier.
