Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans fill in the gaps from your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage.

How to Choose a Plan That Fits You

  • Senior Plan A, C and F.  These plans are entry age rated. This means that once you enroll in a plan, your premium will remain at the age level you had when you first enrolled.  There is no pre-existing condition waiting period for the Senior Plans.
  • Senior Blue Plans A, B, C, F, and G.  These plans are attained age rated.  This means that the premium is based on your current age and increases automatically as you grow older.  There is a six-month preexisting condition waiting period on the Senior Blue Plans.  However, creditable coverage may apply.

ABCs of Medicare

Medicare has four parts:

For eligibility and enrollment please visit www.medicare.gov.

1.  Part A was part of the original Medicare program, introduced in 1965. Referred to as hospital insurance, it covers inpatient hospital care, care received in an approved Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), and some home health and hospice care.

2.  Medicare Part B was also part of the original Medicare program. It covers doctor services and other outpatient services such as therapy, labwork, x-rays and rehab care.   It also covers the part of home health care not covered under Part A, as well as medically necessary durable medical equipment.  There is a premium for Part B.

3.  Medicare Advantage (MA) — the new name for Medicare + Choice — is designed to offer more health care coverage choices and better health care benefits for beneficiaries.   Medicare Advantage plans take the place of original Medicare and are an alternative to Medicare Supplement insurance.   Through Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare pays a set amount of money for a member’s care every month to a private health plan that administers Medicare coverage for its members.

4.  Medicare Part D is the first prescription drug benefit from Medicare.  This program offers prescription drug benefits and catastrophic prescription drug coverage for all eligible Medicare beneficiaries. Every prescription drug program carrier offers many different types of options greater than the standard benefit for an additional premium.
